For the first time, the FIFA World Cup final will have a halftime show. FIFA president Gianni Infantino shared the news, calling it a “historic moment.”
The event will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026. This final wraps up the first 48-team World Cup, hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Global Citizen will organize the show, with Coldplay helping pick the artists. It’s not clear if the band will perform, but frontman Chris Martin and manager Phil Harvey are involved.
Posting on Instagram Infantino said: “I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.
FIFA also plans a Times Square takeover for the final weekend. Fans can watch the bronze final and the final match on huge screens.
It’s still unknown if FIFA will extend the usual 15-minute halftime for the show. But with Coldplay’s past Super Bowl performance, fans expect a big production.
The World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The tournament will feature 104 matches instead of the previous 64 games, including an additional knockout round.
The final will be played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of NFL teams New York Giants and New York Jets.
