Rabat– U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Duke Buchan III as the new U.S. ambassador to Morocco, affirming his role in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
“I am pleased to announce that Duke Buchan III will serve as the U.S. ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“Duke will play a key role as we strengthen peace, freedom, and prosperity for both our countries,” he added.
Duke Buchan III served as the U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra in the first Trump administration, a position he held from 2017 to 2021.
A businessman and diplomat, previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra from 2017 to 2021.
Born on July 3, 1963, in North Carolina, the newly appointed ambassador has an extensive background in investment and finance.
He studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish in 1985, before obtaining an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991.
During his academic career, he participated in an international exchange program, studying at the University of Seville in Spain from 1983 to 1984.
Buchan built a successful career in investment, driven by his strong interest in financial markets. He is the founder of Hunter Global Investors, a firm specializing in asset management and international investments.
His appointment comes at a time of close cooperation between the United States and Morocco, particularly in the areas of security, trade, and investment.
