Rabat – Morocco’s residence in Stockholm hosted on Sunday a multi-faith Ramadan iftar that brought together high-ranking Swedish officials, diplomats, and representatives of the three monotheistic religions.
Held under the theme “Embracing Tolerance and Unity,” the iftar event also hosted Maria Malmer Stenergard, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The Moroccan embassy in Stockholm remarked in a press statement that the event was put on with “pure Moroccan traditions, in an atmosphere that transcended borders, beliefs, and origins.”
Speaking at the event, Morocco’s Ambassador to Sweden Karim Medrek noted that Morocco “has always been a land where monotheistic religions coexist,” celebrating the country’s approach of moderate religion and acceptance of the other.
“Even in the most challenging times, the Kingdom has always remained a model of coexistence, thanks to the unwavering commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to peace and tolerance, making Morocco a leading example of harmonious coexistence,” added the ambassador.
He added that the Iftar serves as a moment of reflection, an opportunity to express gratitude as well as foster values of acceptance, trust, and interconnectedness.
Medrek also remarked on Morocco and Sweden’s shared dedication to coexistence and peace.
Meanwhile, Maria Stenergard said she was happy to participate in such an “exceptional gathering around the authentic values of tolerance and compassion, which Morocco embodies in perfect harmony with its development and modernity.”
She also commended King Mohammed VI’s commitment to interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and his efforts to promote values of peace and tolerance.
