Morocco is in a “perfect shape”, and FIFA knows it. In a recently published report on its official website, the football’s governing body described the Atlas Lions as unstoppable after they tore through the qualifiers, scoring 10 goals in three games, while conceding once.
“The Atlas Lions have won eight straight competitive matches,” FIFA wrote. “Their aim now is to take maximum points against Niger and Tanzania.”
But it won’t be a walk in the park. The report warned that African football is tougher than ever, with teams closing the gap in quality.

Still, Morocco’s attacking prowess is not short of quality firepower. “Morocco have scored four goals or more in six of their last seven matches, showing their formidable attacking strength and the intense playing style they apply on the field under Regragui’s leadership.”
One standout name is Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz. “Diaz has seven goals in eight matches wearing the Atlas Lions shirt, which is the best goal-scoring rate among all players currently in the squad. He has also provided two assists, bringing his total goal contributions to nine in eight matches,” FIFA stated.
But it’s not just about Diaz. “Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui can rely also on Achraf Hakimi who has been one of the most important players for Paris Saint-Germain, having qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Liverpool’s expense. There is also Yassine Bounou, the goalkeeper for Al Hilal, who have succeeded in reaching the finals of the AFC Champions League Elite.”
Morocco is leading their Group E with nine points but is closely trailed by the next matches’ opponents, Niger and Tanzania. A win against both sides would stretch Morocco’s lead to six points, inches away from sealing qualification.
“If they reach 15 points this month, they will widen their gap over the second-place team to six points or more. Regragui’s recent success and Diaz’s great form are just two of the many factors that make Morocco a contender to be one of the first African teams to qualify for the World Cup.”
Morocco faces Niger and Tanzania on March 21 and 25 in Oujda with only two wins away from clinching the ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in US, Canada, and Mexico.
