Rabat – The Moroccan Meteorological Directorate has issued an orange alert for several regions, warning of heavy snowfall and strong winds over the weekend.
The snowfall is expected to affect mountainous areas above 1400 meters and 1700 meters, with the possibility of localized dust storms.
According to the weather bulletin, snowfall could reach up to 40 centimeters in some areas, particularly in the provinces of Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Boulemane, Ifrane, and Sefrou, starting from midnight on Sunday until 1:00 pm on Monday.
The snow is also expected to affect higher elevations above 1700 meters, with up to 25 centimeters of snow in the provinces of Khenifra, Midelt, Taza, Beni Mellal, Azilal, and Khenifra, from 9:00 am on Sunday to 1:00 pm on Monday.
In addition, the weather authority forecasts strong winds with speeds of 70 to 85 kilometers per hour and the risk of dust storms for several regions.
These include Taourirt, Khenifra, Figuig, Boulemane, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taza, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Chtouka Ait Baha, Tiznit, Inzegane-Ait Melloul, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Tan-Tan, and Sidi Ifni.
Authorities are advising residents in these regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions against the expected weather conditions.
Several regions across Morocco have experienced heavy rain and snow, as well as strong winds, prompting the directorate of meteorology to issue red alerts.
In addition, authorities advised people to avoid unnecessary travel from and to areas experiencing these weather conditions.
Earlier this month, several schools in the Tangier-Asilah region suspended classes to ensure the safety of students and educational staff.
