Rabat – Morocco and Ghana have agreed to introduce a visa waiver for all travelers from both countries, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, recently revealed.

The agreement will soon be presented to the parliaments of both countries for approval. “The agreement will be presented to our Parliaments for ratification shortly,” the minister said in a post on X on Sunday.

He added that the two countries pledged to deepen collaboration in several sectors, including agribusiness, tourism, and security.

Ablakwa made the remarks following a meeting with Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil. During their “fruitful and assuring” talks, the two officials addressed concerns about the safety of Ghanaians and other Africans living in Morocco.

“She has assured that Ghanaians and all Africans living in Morocco are safe contrary to the widely circulated videos on social media falsely claiming that some 700 Africans are being massacred,” the foreign minister said.

The assurances come as Morocco is hosting Ghana’s game against Madagascar as part of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The match is taking place today in the northern city of Al Hoceima.

Ablakwa added that the circulating videos are of the June 2022 incident that led to the tragic death of 23 sub-saharan migrants at Morocco’s borders with Melilla.

“That deplorable incident has since been investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities. It is worth noting that no Ghanaian casualty was recorded,” the minister said.

He spoke of the strong relationship the two countries enjoy, noting that Morocco has decided to double the number of scholarships for Ghanaian students, increasing them from 90 to 180 starting this year.
