A German court has reportedly sentenced a 29-year-old Germano-Egyptian national to six years in prison for plotting a terrorist attack on German soil.
The ruling marks a significant victory in cross-border counterterrorism efforts, as the arrest of the individual is the result of a sophisticated intelligence operation that prevented a potentially devastating attack.
German authorities arrested the suspect in October 2023 in Duisburg after receiving critical information from Morocco’s Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
Investigators revealed the suspect had advanced plans to target public spaces using a truck as a weapon.

Deeply radicalized and aligned with ISIS in Syria and Iraq, he had immersed himself in extremist propaganda before security services intervened.

Moroccan authorities have recently dismantled two terrorist cells affiliated to ISIS in the Sahel region. According to converging reports and official statements, the two operations anticipated and thwarted advanced terrorist plans before they materialized.
