Religious committees tasked by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Morocco will observe the crescent moon for Eid Al Fitr, which falls on the beginning of the month of Shawwal, on Sunday.
The country’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs called on its religious committees to gear up to see the moon for Eid Al Fitr on Sunday.
If the moon is visible, then Monday will be Eid Al Fitr. If not, the feast will be on April 1.
However, according to early astronomical predictions, Morocco will announce Monday as Eid Al Fitr 2025.
Moroccan astronomer Ibrahim Akhiam has notably projected that the crescent moon will be visible on Sunday.
In an interview with Morocco World News, he said that the astronomical calculations serve as a “scientific preliminary for the sighting,” adding that the “officially recognized method in Morocco remains the legitimate visual sighting as confirmed by the official authorities.”
Some other Arab countries will celebrate the feast on Sunday.
Eid Al Fitr is a special celebration in Morocco and across the Muslim world.
Beyond the culinary indulgence, the holiday is a special time for families to gather in communion with one another and for morning prayers.
