Morocco prepares to host the first CAF Futsal Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from 22 to 30 April. The tournament offers two places at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in late November, held in the Philippines.
Morocco faces Namibia on April 22 at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT), followed by a match against Cameroon on April 24 at the same time. Both games take place at the 10,000-seat Moulay Abdallah Sports Hall in Rabat.Â
The top team from each group of three, along with the best runner-up, qualifies for the semi-finals. The winners progress to the final, where the champions of CAF Futsal Women’s AFCON will be crowned.
How does it work?
Each team fields five players, including a goalkeeper, from a squad of 14. Substitutions are unlimited but must follow entry and exit rules. Matches last two halves of 20 minutes. Extra time, split into two five-minute halves, follows if needed. A penalty shootout decides drawn matches after extra time.
Referees enforce strict foul limits. A team committing five fouls in a half concedes a 10-meter free shot. Discipline remains tight. Two yellow cards or a straight red results in dismissal. The affected team plays with one fewer player for two minutes unless the opposition scores.
Goalkeepers can leave the penalty area but must release the ball before it crosses halfway unless touched by an opponent. The four-second rule applies to restarts. Throw-ins replace sideline kicks but cannot lead directly to goals.
