Rabat – Danish home furnishing company JYSK announced today its debut in Africa with the opening of two stores in Casablanca, Morocco.
The launch makes Morocco the 50th country where JYSK now operates, and it’s the company’s first step onto the continent. The two new stores are located in Casablanca’s Viva Park and Aeria Mall, said the company in a press release.
“Expanding into Africa has been a long-term goal for JYSK, and today we are proud to make it a reality with our first stores in Casablanca,” said Rami Jensen, President and CEO of JYSK.
He expressed his excitement for JYSK’s entry into the Moroccan market, saying he is confident that the brand’s Scandinavian-style offerings would appeal to local customers.
JYSK first opened in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1979. Since then, it has grown to more than 3,500 stores and employs over 31,000 people around the world.
“It is always special to open new stores, and even more special when it happens in a new market and on a new continent like today,” Jensen added.
The company has also opened a local head office in Casablanca and is preparing to launch a third store in the country later this year.
In addition to the two stores, Moroccan customers can also shop online at JYSK.ma, with the company also opening a “dark store,” a small warehouse where online orders are prepared and shipped.
Just two weeks ago, JYSK opened its first store in South America through a franchise partnership. With today’s launch in Morocco, the company has expanded into two continents in the same year, highlighted the statement.
“Our expansion into Morocco is a confirmation of JYSK’s business model, which continues to be a success across all our markets,” Jensen stated.
