Moroccan Energy Company Launches Initiative to Boost Industrial Energy Efficiency

Rabat — Moroccan Energy Investment Company (SIE) has launched a call for interest to select industrial companies seeking energy audits, aiming to advance the country’s industrial energy transition goals.

The initiative hopes to improve energy efficiency across Morocco’s industrial operations, helping companies identify cost-saving opportunities while promoting both energy efficiency measures and renewable energy solutions.

All audits will follow strict Moroccan standards, NM ISO 50002 and NM EN 16247-3, implementing a comprehensive approach that includes existing data analysis, measurement campaigns, technical and economic recommendations, as well as an action plan for implementing proposed potential solutions.

Companies must meet several eligibility requirements to participate. They need an annual energy bill exceeding MAD 1.2 million ($ 12,000) and must commit to co-financing the audit.

For audits costing up to MAD 100,000 ($10,000), companies must cover 50% of costs. For more expensive audits, companies must contribute MAD 50,000 ($5,000).

Additionally, participating companies must provide technical staff to support the audit process and commit to implementing the resulting recommendations.

Companies can implement changes either through their resources or by entering an energy performance contract with an energy service company (ESCO).

This program represents SIE’s ongoing commitment to transforming Morocco’s industrial sector toward greater energy efficiency and sustainability.

Morocco’s journey toward energy efficiency

Morocco’s journey in energy transition seems to be on track, as the country’s energy efficiency approach is expected to allow for energy savings of 20% by 2030.

While the North African country’s energy efficiency is a “second pillar” of its national energy strategy, it also presents a promising area for job creation in the energy field, with an estimated 100,000 job opportunities expected by 2030.

Also, Morocco is adopting strategies capable of guaranteeing the country’s energy transition, with significant investments in solar and wind projects, hydrogen, and all types of renewable energies, aiming for 52% renewable energy by 2030.
