Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts strong thunderstorms in several parts of the country on Friday.
The weather authority issued an orange weather alert, warning that rainfall between 15 and 25 millimeters is expected in several areas, along with hail and strong wind gusts.
The affected regions include the provinces and cities of Khemisset, Khouribga, Settat, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, and Midelt.
Authorities have urged residents of the concerned areas to be cautious, especially in places where heavy rain and hail may cause difficult driving conditions or local flooding.
Several regions across Morocco have been experiencing changing weather conditions this week, with rising temperatures in some provinces.
Earlier this week, the directorate warned that temperatures ranging between 38 and 42 degrees Celsius would affect Rabat, Nouaceur, Settat, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Khemisset, Fez, and Meknes.
The weather authority expects a gradual drop in temperature starting Saturday, mainly in the north and coastal areas, though it will stay warm inland. Early next week may bring unstable weather with thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds in mountainous and interior regions.
Other provinces have been experiencing dangerous weather conditions like strong winds, heavy rain, and sandstorms.
Videos shared online showed strong winds and sandstorms that affected several roads, making it nearly impossible for drivers to see other vehicles and the road ahead.
