Barcelona have tied Lamine Yamal to a new long-term contract that runs until 2031, locking in one of the brightest young stars in world football.
The 17-year-old winger has been a standout this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists as Barça won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey under Hansi Flick. Now, the club have moved quickly to reward his performances.
According to The Athletic, the new deal includes a base salary of around €10 million per year and a €25 million signing bonus. If Yamal hits all his performance targets, his total earnings could reach €40 million per year before tax. That would make him the highest-paid player at the club, ahead of veterans like Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong.
The contract also includes a clause for a salary review in two years, allowing the club and the player to revisit the terms based on performance and progression.
Yamal’s contract was finalized just before the start of his summer break. His agent, Jorge Mendes, flew in twice over the past few weeks to wrap things up quickly, allowing the teenager to head into the off-season without transfer rumours hanging over him.
Despite his rapid rise, Yamal has remained calm under pressure. Ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Inter, he said, “Fear while playing? I left all my fears in the park of my neighbourhood, back in Mataró.”
Barcelona sporting director Deco described the new deal as the club’s best move of the summer. “He’s a special player,” he told local radio. “He deserves special treatment.”
Yamal’s camp didn’t explicitly demand he become the top earner, but the message was clear. After a season like this, he has become one of the biggest difference-makers in the squad.
The deal was structured to fit within La Liga’s financial regulations, and Yamal’s status as a La Masia graduate made registration smoother.
