Rabat – Police officers in the Bernoussi district of Casablanca arrested three young men aged between 22 and 23 on Sunday night for engaging in sports riots.
They are suspected of being involved in a violent street fight and causing damage to private property in a case related to sports-related riots.
According to a police source, the suspects were caught engaging in violent behavior and causing injuries during a fight in a residential area.
They were reportedly part of a larger group, and the violence they were involved in damaged four parked cars. Early investigations suggest the incident was triggered by previous disagreements linked to football fan groups, with the suspects belonging to a supporters’ faction of a football team.
The suspects are currently under investigation, as ordered by the public prosecutor. Authorities are working to uncover all the circumstances behind the incident and to identify and arrest other people involved.
Sports-related violence, especially football hooliganism, has become a serious issue in several Moroccan cities, especially big cities like Casablanca.
Although football is the most popular sport in the country and a source of pride and unity, clashes between rival fan groups often lead to public disturbances, property damage, and even injuries.
These incidents usually occur after intense matches, especially during local derbies or when major clubs are involved. Authorities have made efforts to tighten security around stadiums and increase surveillance in known trouble spots, but violence often spills into residential neighborhoods.
Authorities have continuously vowed to address this phenomenon, including awareness campaigns, better policing strategies, and encouraging clubs to take responsibility for the behavior of their supporters.
