From his Truth Social throne, Donald Trump has issued a sweeping directive to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ordering agents to escalate immigration crackdowns in a bid to “reverse the tide of Mass Destruction Migration.”
“ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History,” Trump declared.
His order calls for ICE to zero in on Democratic-led cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York—places he claims are overrun by “millions and upon million of illegal aliens.”
“These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens,” he wrote, regurgitating widely debunked and xenophobic anti-immigrant narratives.
Trump divides Americans into two camps: the “REAL Americans,” he claims, are cheering ICE agents every day, and the “Radical Left Democrats,” whom he blames for undermining the country.
“These Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities.[…] That is why There is something wrong with them. That is why they believe in Open Borders, Transgender for Everybody, and Men playing in Women’s Sports,” he added, mixing unrelated right-wing culture war themes to provoke reactionary outrage.
Trump concluded with a promise to ramp up deportations: “Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came, and preventing the admission of ANYONE who undermines the domestic tranquility of the United States,” said Trump, overlooking his own foreign German ancestry.
“When 30,000 Ukrainians sought asylum here in the city of Chicago, nobody said a mumbling word. But all of a sudden when indigenous people who are trying to get to a land that was robbed from them through colonization, they want me as a Black man to be mad at them? You gotta be out of your freaking mind!” Said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, laying bare the racist underpinnings of immigration enforcement.
A retaliation for a bruised ego
Trump’s Truth Social outburst came just one day after the massive “No Kings” protests, in which an estimated six million people across 2,000 American cities demonstrated against what they see as Trump’s authoritarian power grabs and ambitions of unchecked rule.
The protests coincided with a lavish military parade held under the banner of celebrating 250 years of the US Army—but also timed to mark Trump’s 79th birthday, leading many to see the event more as a birthday parade.
While the No Kings protests drew massive crowds, the military parade—reportedly costing up to $45 million in taxpayer funds amid a housing crisis, inflation, and mounting global instability—saw far lower turnout. The White House estimated attendance at 250,000, but independent media outlets placed the crowd in the tens of thousands.
“I am mad because that Military Parade is lame AF! They can’t even synchronize their marches and hands! WTF kind of show is that? Trump wasted money for the world to show that Americans can’t pull off a proper Military Parade? WTF!” posted one user on X. Others speculated that attendees were recruited through Craigslist.
Militarizing immigration enforcement
Trump’s post also followed his controversial move to federalize thousands of National Guard troops and deploy hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles—a decision made without the consent of California’s governor. The deployment marked a dramatic and legally dubious escalation of federal power.
“What we’re witnessing is not law enforcement – it’s authoritarianism,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom, denouncing Trump’s actions. “Trump is pulling a military dragnet across Los Angeles. It’s weakness masquerading as strength,” he added, warning that the decision would only escalate tensions in LA.
The federal occupation came amid ICE’s intensifying campaign in Los Angeles, where agents have been using aggressive and unlawful tactics to target immigrant communities. These actions triggered mass protests from residents who appreciate immigrants as an integral part of the city’s fabric and fear a breakdown in basic civil rights.
Before Trump’s directive, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem reportedly met with ICE leadership last month, pressuring the agency to ramp up arrests to 3,000 per day. According to reports, ICE officials were threatened with termination if they failed to meet the quota.
“Get the numbers up. We expect results – no excuses,” said Miller while reportedly yelling during the meeting.
Despite official claims that ICE’s focus on “violent illegal immigrants,” video footage and reports from advocacy groups and witnesses paint a much grimmer reality– scenes that shatter any illusion of targeted enforcement.
Mothers ripped from their children, workers being kidnapped mid-shift, students ripped away from classrooms, worshippers dragged from places of sanctuary—all taken to cruel detention facilities without the shield of warrants or due process.
