Morocco has expressed full solidarity with Qatar after Iran recently launched missile strikes on US bases stationed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and Ain Al Asad Air Base in Iraq.
A statement from Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the attack targeted the sovereignty and airspace of the sister State of Qatar.
In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said that Morocco backs Qatar in the face of “anything that may affect its security and the safety of its citizens.”
The condemnation comes as Iran announced its operation targeted US bases as retaliation for yesterday’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Qatari authorities confirmed that the missiles were intercepted, converging reports said, adding that no casualties were reported.
A senior regional source told Reuters that Iran informed diplomatic channels hours before the strike, and also informed Qatari authorities.
Despite Tehran calling the operation “devastating,” US officials also confirmed that there were no injuries or deaths among personnel at the base, Reuters reported.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against any strikes in retaliation for US attacks on Tehran nuclear sites, saying that it “will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed tonight.”
