Berlin – A coordinated operation between Morocco’s national police and customs services stopped a major drug trafficking attempt at the Bab Sebta border post on Saturday evening.
The interception involved a vehicle registered abroad, driven by a Spanish citizen of Moroccan origin.
She traveled with her two children and another Moroccan woman. Border officers carried out a detailed inspection of the vehicle and uncovered 102,000 Rivotril tablets concealed inside metal compartments built into the car’s structure.
The scene appeared, at first glance, to be that of an ordinary family trip. That appearance quickly faded as officers discovered the hidden cargo.
Investigators now believe the suspects used the family setup as a cover, hoping to reduce suspicion and ease their way across the border.
Authorities arrested all four individuals as soon as they entered Moroccan territory.
The group remains in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Investigators aim to trace possible links between this case and wider trafficking networks, both within and beyond Morocco.
This seizure marks a new chapter in Morocco’s efforts to fight the spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
Security forces continue to reinforce control at sensitive border crossings like Bab Sebta, where criminal networks often test the limits of surveillance.
Officials stress their resolve to dismantle these networks and to protect public health and national security.
