Rangers starlet Hamza Igamane is set for a switch to Lille after Ligue 1 club beat Sevilla, Marseille and Everton to the Moroccan striker, who bagged 13 goals in his debut season in Scotland.
The Moroccan forward, just 21, has reached a full agreement with Lille over personal terms, sources tell Africafoot. The paperwork’s nearly sorted – he’s expected in Scotland on today to iron out administrative details before flying off for his medical in France.
The move is a coup for LOSC Lille, who have triggered the €10 million release clause inserted in Igamane’s contract by Rangers, despite the Scottish club initially slapping a €24 million price tag on the in-and-out striker.
The deal, a tidy bit of business, would also benefit his former Moroccan club, AS FAR, who are set to pocket a cut from any future resale as part of a clause in his contract.
Lille’s lawyers and their counterparts in Glasgow are currently exchanging final documents.
It’s a serious leap forward for Igamane, who’s lit up the 2024/25 season with 13 goals in 35 appearances for Rangers – nine in the league and four in Europe.
“Igamane is a player who brings pace, precision and presence up front,” a source told Africafoot. “That’s why several clubs were sniffing around.”
And indeed they were. Sevilla, Marseille and Everton all reportedly showed interest, with Sevilla even dispatching scouts to keep tabs. But Lille moved quickest.
At the time of writing, Transfermarkt values him at €2.5 million – up from €1.5 million just six months ago. At this rate, his stock will be soaring with every match.
He joined Rangers from FAR Rabat last summer on a five-year deal and has wasted no time making a name for himself in Europe. French football, brace yourselves – the Moroccan menace is coming.
