Algeria has amateurishly replaced the logo of the Royal Air Maroc during their coverage of their head coach press conference.

Algeria is playing in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, hosted in Morocco, but you wouldn’t know it from their coverage.

Since 5 July, Algeria’s coverage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has taken an unusual turn.

Despite Morocco hosting the tournament, Algerian television and official channels have systematically removed or hidden any mention of the host nation.

Royal Air Maroc, the official sponsor, has been erased from the mosaic backdrop during the Algerian coach’s press conference and replaced by another sponsor, TotalEnergies.

On social media, the Algerian Football Federation’s posts about their squad omit “Morocco 2025” entirely. Even the logos of the Africa Cup of Nations and the Moroccan Football Federation are concealed on black duct tape.

This tactic has attracted attention from international media, notably from Le Parisien. The French news outlet described it as a mix of denial and political rivalry spilling into sport.

Ironically, this has paradoxically drawn more attention to the host nation.
