RC Lens have turned down an offer from AS Roma for Moroccan midfielder Neil El Aynaoui.
The Italian club submitted a bid worth over €20 million for the 22-year-old, who was expected to leave Lens this summer. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 side have rejected the offer and instead presented the starlet with an improved deal to remain at the club.
“RC Lens has rejected AS Roma’s offer for Neil El Aynaoui and has improved its offer to keep the midfielder at the club, ” Romano wrote on X.
With this move off the table, Roma are said to be shifting their focus on alternative targets. “AS Roma won’t proceed at current conditions, prepared to focus on different targets.“ Romano added.
El Aynaoui, the son of Moroccan tennis legend Younes El Aynaoui, is still eligible to play for Morocco’s U23 squad. He has been pre-selected several times by national team head coach Walid Regragui but has yet to appear on the final senior squad list.
