Rabat – The Public Prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeals has denied claims made by a woman in a viral video circulating online, alleging that her deceased son’s organs were stolen.
The woman alleges that her son’s organs were stolen following a traffic accident in 2021.
The claims are “false and contrary to the truth,” the prosecutor said, noting that the allegations have been the subject of a judicial investigation conducted by the National Judicial Police in Casablanca.
The investigation concluded that the organ donation process had been carried out in full compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory provisions, in line with a law concerning the donation of human organs and tissues.
The prosecutor said the removal of the deceased’s organs, including the kidneys and corneas, was done after an explicit and written consent from the deceased’s mother, which included her signature, fingerprint, and national ID number.
The removal took place only after the death had been officially verified, the prosecutor said, stressing that a specialized medical committee supervised the organ donation throughout all stages of the procedure.
“The donation followed confirmation of the clinical signs of brain death by two doctors, along with confirmation via brain vascular imaging,” the prosecutor added, confirming that the organs were transplanted to other patients based on a patient list maintained by the hospital.
According to decree No. 1-99-208, the donation, removal, and transplantation of human organs may only be carried out under the conditions provided by law and regulations issued for its implementation. The decree notes that a human organ is defined as any part of the human body
It emphasizes that organ removal cannot be performed without the donor’s prior consent, and the consent could be revoked by the donor at any time.
