FC Barcelona are planning an ambitious summer transfer strategy for 2026, targeting two high-profile signings despite a difficult 2025 window.
The Catalans have completed three signings this summer, Marcus Rashford, Joan Garcia, and Roony Bardghji, but registration issues and financial fair play restrictions have limited the club’s flexibility. Barcelona will finish the summer once again short of meeting the 1:1 Fair Play rule.
Looking ahead, president Joan Laporta is preparing to spend around €200 million to bring in Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, according to Fichajes. The moves are seen as both sporting and political statements, as Laporta aims to consolidate his project ahead of the club’s 2026 presidential elections.
Alvarez, who joined Atletico as a marquee signing last year, has quickly made his mark with goals and assists, establishing himself among Europe’s top forwards. With Robert Lewandowski entering the final year of his Barcelona contract, Alvarez is seen as a potential long-term replacement.
Defensive reinforcements are also on the agenda. Bastoni, 26, has won two Serie A titles and played in two Champions League finals with Inter. A left-footed centre-back with strong distribution, he fits Barcelona’s style and long-term plans. Inter are expected to resist selling him, but his contract situation in 2026 could ease negotiations if a renewal is not secured.
Barcelona’s plans will also rely on strategic sales to free up salary space. Ronald Araújo has been linked to a potential departure if he fails to secure a permanent starting role. The club hopes to generate €70-80 million from a key sale, supplementing that with the planned financial injection for next summer.
