Senegal – the new generation

  • Fielding the youngest squad at CHAN 2024.
  • Average age: 21.7 years.
  • Only one player, Serigne Moctar Koïté, featured in the 2023 edition in Algeria.
  • Three goals scored in four matches — all after half-time.
  • In four games, they scored 4 goals and conceded once.
  • Goalkeeper Marc Diouf has three clean sheets.

Coach Souleymane Diallo: “This is a young generation ready to write their own history. We will face a Moroccan team with very solid performance statistics, but we cannot underestimate the work being done in Senegal.”

Striker Oumar Ba (scored against Uganda): “We know it won’t be easy, but we will do our best out there. We are united, and that is very important. I promise we will fight to make it to the final.”

Morocco – experience and pedigree

  • Two-time CHAN winners (2018, 2020).
  • Highest-scoring team in this year’s tournament (9 goals).
  • Most shots on target among semi-finalists (29).
  • Oussama Lamlaoui: top scorer (4).
  • Youssef Mehri: tournament leader in assists (3).
  • Travelled across all three co-hosts (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda).
  • Could become the first team to reach three finals in six years.

Coach Tarik Sektioui: “Tomorrow we have a very important game against a team that earned their qualification fairly. It won’t be easy; it will be a very, very tough game. Our goal is always to win this trophy in 2024, even with Senegal in the semi-final.”

Winger Khalid Baba: “Our mindset is that of a professional, responsible group that knows it must do everything to win. Victory doesn’t happen by chance; it is earned.

Players to watch

  • Oussama Lamlaoui (Morocco): prolific poacher
  • Youssef Mehri (Morocco): chief creator, leading in assists.
  • Mohamed Rabie Hrimat (Morocco): two-time man of the match award.
  • Mohamed Boulacsoute (Morocco): flying right-back
  • Youssef Belammari (Morocco): quality left-back creator
  • Marc Diouf (Senegal): commanding goalkeeper, tournament’s standout shot-stopper.
  • Oumar Ba (Senegal): clinical forward.

Prediction

Morocco’s balance of experience and attacking variety makes them favourites. Senegal’s young side have impressed with discipline and organisation but may lack the firepower to match the Atlas Lions. Expect a tight first half, before Morocco’s attacking quality tells.

Prediction: Morocco 2-0 Senegal.
