Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has commended Moroccan forward Oussama Lamlioui for his outstanding performances at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
In an article published on its website, CAF described Lamlioui as the “game changer” of the Atlas Lions, saying his goals and leadership have kept Morocco’s hopes of winning the title alive.
The Moroccan team has advanced to the CHAN’s finals after beating defending champions Senegal 5-3 on penalties last night. The game ended 1-1 after extra time, with the Atlas Lions booking their ticket to the finals in penalties.
CAF pointed out that Lamlioui was decisive in Morocco’s campaign, especially after their opening defeat against Kenya. The RS Berkane striker scored twice in a crucial 3-1 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo, a performance that earned him the Man of the Match award and helped Morocco qualify for the knockout stage.
So far, Lamlioui has scored four goals and provided one assist, making him the top scorer of the tournament. CAF also commended his movement, pressing, and aerial strength, noting that he has been involved in nearly every important attacking move Morocco has made.
“His intelligent movement stretches defences, his aerial strength brings a different dimension, and his relentless pressing mirrors Morocco’s tactical identity,” reads the article.
The team’s coach Tarik Sektioui described Lamlioui as a “player who knows how to read the game and handle decisive moments. That’s what makes him special.”
CAF added that Lamlioui’s experience with RS Berkane, where he has already won continental titles, has given him the calmness to perform in high-pressure situations.
As Morocco prepare to face Madagascar in the CHAN final, CAF said much of the team’s success will depend on Lamlioui’s ability to continue his strong form.
“If Morocco go all the way, much of the credit will rest with Oussama Lamlioui, the forward whose boots carry the weight of a nation’s dreams,” concludes CAF.
The game is taking place on August 30 at 4 p.m. GMT+1. It will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Kenya.
