Rabat – A fire broke out on Sunday evening at the control tower of Zagora Airport, but authorities confirmed that no one was hurt and airport operations continued without disruption.
The fire began at 8:12 p.m. and was fully under control by 9:30 p.m., according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
The swift coordination between airport personnel, ONDA teams, and Civil Protection officers allowed the blaze to be contained rapidly.
Safety systems were activated immediately, preventing any escalation.
ONDA said that flights continued as scheduled and measures were put in place to ensure passenger safety and the smooth running of airport activities.
The office commended the professionalism and quick response of all staff involved, noting that their efforts swiftly resolved the issue within a short period.
An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.
Zagora Airport sits seven kilometers from the city, in Morocco’s Draa-Tafilalet region. The modern terminal, inaugurated in 2019, mainly handles domestic routes operated by Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and Air Arabia Maroc, connecting Zagora with Casablanca, Ouarzazate, and Marrakech.
Earlier this year, a similar incident happened at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, where a fire broke out in the cargo area of RAM but was later fully contained.
