Rabat – A fire that broke out at dawn today killed two people in the Douar Moulay Azzouz El Melk, within the Annakhil area in Marrakech.
The flames began around 5:30 a.m., and spread quickly.
Local authorities assert that the fire is under control, and a judicial investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Morocco has witnessed several similar tragic incidents, including one in Temara, a coastal city in Rabat, earlier this February. The horrific house fire killed of five children, with conflicting reports on how it started.
Some assert that the flames sparked from a phone charger that exploded, while others suggest it was due to a gas cylinder that combusted in the apartment.
In the same month, a fire also broke out at the Conference Palace in Marrakech, killing two and injuring three others. The fire reportedly started inside an elevator.
