Mohammedia – Thunes, a global fintech company, has introduced real-time payment services in Morocco. Members of its Direct Global Network can now send money directly to Moroccan bank accounts in local currency, Moroccan dirham, and have it arrive immediately.
Morocco is a key recipient of money from abroad. In 2023, Moroccans received over USD 11.5 billion in remittances, highlighting how important fast and affordable money transfers are for the country.
Thunes’ launch is a big deal because speed matters. In its 2025 “Money Without Borders” report, Thunes found that 65% of expatriates choose a service based on how fast it sends money. With direct links to Morocco’s banks, Thunes offers quicker and clearer transfers compared to older systems.
Aik Boon Tan, Thunes’ Chief Network Officer, said the company is stepping up to meet growing demand for “seamless, real-time, cross-border payments” in North Africa. “This latest expansion of our Direct Global Network into Morocco marks an important milestone for Thunes and our Members around the world, allowing them to truly enhance the speed of their consumer and business cross-border payments,” he explained.

Chloé Mayenobe, President and COO of Thunes, said, “Speed has become more than a preference in cross-border payments; it’s an expectation and a key factor for end users when choosing a solution.” She also highlighted how this new service helps users send faster, cheaper, and more transparent transactions into one of Africa’s most vital markets.
Thunes already runs a massive payments network, covering over 130 countries, 80 currencies, and reaching more than 7 billion mobile wallets and bank accounts, plus 15 billion cards across 320+ payment methods like Orange, AliPay, MTN, and many more.
This expansion into Morocco strengthens Thunes’ position as a leader in real-time, cross-border payouts. It also fits the company’s mission to include the “next billion” users in the global economy by offering better access to digital money services.
For everyday Moroccans and businesses, this means sending or receiving money is now faster and simpler. International workers supporting families back home, small business owners paying suppliers abroad, or marketplaces operating across borders will all benefit from the improved speed and lower friction of these payments.
In the bigger picture, this launch can help Morocco’s digital economy grow further. When money moves quickly and transparently, people trust the systems more, and that encourages wider use of digital payments.
Over time, this can lead to greater financial inclusion and boost the country’s economic activity.
