Rabat – New reports have uncovered an email in which the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, referred to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein as a “supreme friend.”
On Sunday, the Sun and the Mail said the email dates back to 2011.
The BBC reported that a spokesperson for the duchess said the email was to “counter a threat Epstein had made to sue her for defamation.”
In a previous interview, the duchess distanced herself, saying she hates pedophilia and sexual abuse of children.
“I cannot state more strongly that I know a terrible, terrible error of judgment was made, my having anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein. What he did was wrong and for which he was rightly jailed,” she said in the interview in 2011.
The Sun and Mail, alleged that the duchess emailed Epstein shortly after the interview, saying she did not use the word “pedophilia” in reference to him.
“As you know, I did not, absolutely not, say the ‘P word’ about you, but understand it was reported that I did,” she wrote in her email to Epstein.
She added, “I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. You have always been a steadfast, generous, and supreme friend to my family and me.”
A spokesperson for the duchess claimed that the email was sent after Epstein threatened to sue her for defamation.
“The duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims,” the spokesperson added.
The Epstein case continues to make international headlines despite the notorious sexual offender’s suicide at New York’s Metropolitan Correction Center in 2019. Epstein took his own life while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The case continues to be viral as Epstein was known to associate himself with a list of connections from US high society and celebrities, including Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker.
Recently, a committee in the US Congress released letters between Trump and Epstein.
The Washington Post and New York Times compiled letters between Trump and Epstein in a 2003 “birthday book” for Epstein’s 50th birthday.
The book includes highly suggestive, crude remarks.
