Rabat – Achraf Hakimi recently spoke about the important role Zinedine Zidane played in his football career. In an interview with the French TV show Clique on Canal+, the Moroccan footballer shared how Zidane gave him his first chance to play professionally and helped shape him into the player he is today.

Hakimi was just 17 or 18 years old in 2017 when he was playing for Real Madrid’s reserve team, Castilla. Zidane, who was then the coach of the first team, invited him to train and play with the senior squad.

“What did he bring me? He gave me his trust. I was young, still with Castilla, and he called me up and gave me playing time,” Hakimi said.

“I thank him for that, because not every coach would do it. I will be forever grateful to him. I learned so much from him, especially how he spoke to players, like a father to his children. He always wanted the best for me,” added the player.

Hakimi also explained that he learned from Zidane not only on the field but also in how to communicate and build relationships with teammates. “He spoke to us as if we were his own children, as if he was giving advice to his son Luca, and he wanted the best for me. I learned so much from Zidane.” he added.

In the same interview, Hakimi also shared a fun moment when he was asked to name his dream football eleven. His chosen forward line included Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ronaldo Nazário.

When asked about Kylian Mbappé, who is a close friend of his, Hakimi smiled and said: “No, he’s on the bench. He’ll come on as my first substitution. He’s a phenomenal player.”

Hakimi stated that only when he wins the Ballon d’Or, like Messi, Ronaldo, and Nazario, will he be in Hakimi’s starting eleven.

Hakimi’s comment highlights his close friendship with Mbappé, who is currently one of the top players in the world. Hakimi and Mbappé have played together at Paris Saint-Germain, and the Moroccan defender has often commended the French star for his skill, speed, and professionalism.
