Rabat – Morocco’s economy showed strong growth in the second quarter of 2025, with the national economic growth rate rising to 5.5% compared to 3% during the same period in 2024, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
The HCP said that domestic demand played a key role in driving this growth, in a context of controlled inflation and increased need for financing the national economy.
Non-agricultural activities grew by 5.5%, while the agricultural sector saw a 4.7% increase. The primary sector’s value added rose by 4.2% in volume, recovering from a 4.8% decline during the same quarter last year. This growth was driven by the agricultural sector’s performance, which grew 4.7%, although fisheries activities fell by 7.7%.
The secondary sector recorded a strong growth of 7.4%, up from 3.1% in the second quarter of 2024. This improvement was supported by electricity, gas, water, sanitation, and waste treatment activities (up 8.9%), manufacturing (up 6.9%), and construction and public works (up 6.7%).
The tertiary sector also grew, with its growth rate increasing from 4.2% last year to 4.8% this quarter. Hotels and restaurants led the sector with a 10.5% growth, followed by public administration and social security services at 4.8%, and trade and vehicle repair at 4.4%.
However, some services slowed down, including education, health, and social work (down to 5.7% from 6.4%), and transport and storage (down to 4.3% from 7.9%).
At current prices, Morocco’s GDP rose by 7.8% in the second quarter of 2025, compared to 6.9% last year. This growth contributed to a slowdown in the overall price level to 2.3%, down from 3.9% during the same period in 2024.
