Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Espanyol’s 22-year-old Moroccan defender, Omar El Hilali, as they look to bolster their options at right-back. The promising full-back has caught the attention of Old Trafford scouts thanks to his blend of technical ability and attacking prowess.
Fichajes reports that United want to bring in El Hilali in the coming months, seeing him as a long-term investment for a position that demands both defensive solidity and offensive contribution.

The move, however, will not be straightforward. Espanyol view him as a key player, with a contract that runs until 2027 and a €25 million release clause. Any transfer would need to satisfy the club financially and convince the player that he will play a central role at Manchester United.
El Hilali has made a name for himself in La Liga after progressing from Espanyol’s reserve team to the first team. His performances have earned plaudits for his balance between defence and attack, making him a target for clubs in England seeking young talent with room to grow.
At United, he would be expected to compete with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui for the right-back spot. His willingness to take on that challenge and secure regular minutes will be crucial, given his age and ambition.
For Espanyol, selling a developing talent like El Hilali could provide financial flexibility, but the club appear prepared to resist low offers and retain their promising defender.
Sources suggest United could make a move before the next winter window, but a summer transfer seems more likely, allowing clubs to negotiate with less pressure and plan strategically.
