Rabat – The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced today the launch of the national campaign for awareness, prevention, and early detection of breast and cervical cancers.

The initiative coincides with “Pink October,” the month dedicated to raising awareness about these cancers.

Organized from October 1 to 31 under the slogan, “Your Health is Your Capital, Early Detection is Your Guarantee,” the campaign aims to educate the public, especially the target age groups, about the importance of prevention.

This includes vaccinating girls aged 11 against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and promoting early detection for women in the recommended age groups.

The ministry stated that Morocco has developed a structured and comprehensive system for the early detection of breast and cervical cancers, first through the National Plan for Cancer Prevention and Control 2010-2019, and now through the second plan covering 2020-2029.

These efforts have improved access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment services, according to the ministry.

As part of the program, 57 reproductive health reference centers and 12 regional cancer centers have been established. In addition, two centers of excellence for women’s oncology and breast cancer have been set up at the University Hospital Centers in Rabat and Casablanca, indicates the statement.

To reach women in remote areas, the ministry said it has deployed 27 mobile mammography units and introduced measures to facilitate access to HPV vaccination, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The campaign also involves cooperation with various institutional, civil society, and community organizations.

According to the latest report from the Casablanca-Settat Regional Cancer Registry (2018-2021), breast and cervical cancers rank first and fourth among cancers affecting women in Morocco, accounting for 39.1% and 6.5% of cases, respectively.
