Rabat – Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) announced a new military drill with the British army in the Ram-Ram region near Marrakech.

Morocco’s military said that the Ram-Ram area has been hosting the new edition of the Jbel Sahara exercise since the beginning of October.

The FAR lauded the new military drill with the UK, emphasizing that it reflects the depth of military cooperation between the two countries.

Morocco has been strengthening its military capabilities through a series of joint exercises and partnerships with international partners in addition to the UK, including the US and France.

One of the latest drills also includes the Chergui military exercise, which brings together the French army and the Royal Armed Forces in the Errachidia region.

The goal of the military drill is to enhance interoperability between the two militaries as well as boost strategic cooperation between Paris and Rabat.

On October 3, the French government said that the exercise “highlights Franco-Moroccan military cooperation.” The drill included members of the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment,  as well as a command module from the airmobile brigade.

“Beyond its operational aspect, Chergui 2025 demonstrates the strength of the strategic partnership between France and Morocco,” the French government said, stating that the drill aimed to reinforce and develop tactical and technical expertise as well as address regional security challenges.

In May, Morocco hosted the African Lion, the largest annual joint military exercise on the African continent.

The military drill is part of the partnership between Morocco and the US, featuring joint operations that involve ground, air, and combined staff components, designed to strengthen regional security, promote interoperability, and build readiness across allied and partner forces.

The US considers Morocco a strategic partner that has been the primary host for the exercise for the last 21 years.

“Their steadfast support, multinational inclusion, and unwavering support make the exercise successful year after year,” the US embassy quoted  Eldride Browne, Chief of Exercises for US Army Southern European Task Force in Africa, as saying.

A Global Firepower report in January ranked Morocco as the 59th powerful military worldwide in 2025 out of 145 countries assessed.

In April, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, known as SIPRI, also highlighted Morocco’s military spending increase, amounting to 2.6% 2024 to reach $5.5 billion.

Morocco has been upgrading its military equipment, ordering cutting-edge technology from international partners, with the US remaining as the North African country’s largest supplier.

In June, Morocco’s military received the first batch of M-ATV Standard Base tactical armored vehicles manufactured by American company Oshkosh Defense. The vehicles are designed to equip ground forces in the Saharan and eastern regions of the country.
