Rabat – GenZ 212 protestors have called for Moroccans to boycott Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch’s various businesses and associations. As part of their calls, they have also demanded his resignation.

Among the companies that protestors are boycotting are Afriquia Gaz, Akwa, Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, Fairmont Hotel, Gap, Mini Bahim, and Zara.

Akhannouch is a billionaire businessman with investments, connections, and companies in several key parts of the Moroccan economy that span tourism, media, real estate, and energy among others.

However, these investments are not without controversy. Many have accused Akhannouch of valuing his personal business over his role as the head of government, with critics say he is putting his personal affairs before the wellbeing of the state.

In 2025, his net worth was $1.6 billion, making him among the richest men in Africa.

The call to boycott his services comes with a larger wave of demands by GenZ212 for better healthcare and education.

The movement shared the boycott campaign via social media as a form of protest via economic resistance.

GenZ 212 and other activists are upset with current conditions and accuse the current government of corruption and mismanagement of money.

The government has allocated billions of dollars to new football stadiums for AFCON 2025 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, provoking an outpouring of fury from protestors who say that the Moroccan government should first concern itself with reforming healthcare and education before it funds sports entertainment.

This is not the first time Moroccans have boycotted Akhannounch’s brands before. In 2018, a boycott movement launched against three major distributors of essential goods—water, milk, and fuel—that Akhannouch owned.

The 2018 boycott had significant economic impact, rattling the government. Protestors hope to mimic those effects for this current boycott.

Other activists have urged a response from the King, Mohammed VI, who is set to address Parliament in a speech tomorrow.
