Rabat – A road accident on Saturday killed five people near Douar Lahwant in the commune of Ghassate, in the province of Ouarzazate.

Five other passers were injured during the accident that took place at 4 p.m. on National Road 23.

The accident took place following the overturning of a transport vehicle carrying 10 people, including the driver.

Injured victims were evacuated to the Sidi Hssain Bennaceur Provincial Hospital Center in Ouarzazate.

Security services opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident. The incident took place a week after a similar tragedy in the province of Sidi Kacem, 134 kilometers from Rabat.

The accident killed nine people, while six others were seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a large vehicle carrying 15 people.

Statistics from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that 29 people were killed and 2,962 others were injured in 2,200 traffic accidents that took place between September 8-14.

The accidents were mainly caused by inattention, speeding, and not maintaining a safe distance.
