Rabat – In an interview with FIFA, Malak Al-Kilani, a player for Morocco’s women’s futsal team, shared her hopes to win the World Cup.
The first edition of the tournament will take place in the Philippines from November 27 to December 7.
The 21-year-old is pleased with how far women’s football has come in Morocco. She feels confident ahead of the event. “Winning the World Cup, we believe in it, and we want to go as far as possible,” said the Sporting Casablanca player.
Al-Kilani helped Morocco win the African futsal title in April in Rabat and made history by scoring the team’s first-ever goal at the Women’s Futsal AFCON. “It was an incredible feeling. I am proud to have the opportunity to experience it in front of the Moroccan people and our fans in Rabat. It was a moment of pride and honour, and I thank God for that,” she said.
Al-Kilani also discussed transitioning from regular football to futsal. “It wasn’t easy to go from the traditional field to the smaller futsal courts. This discipline requires quick decision-making and an ability to play in small spaces, in addition to the differences at the physical and tactical level… But through hard work, I managed to adapt to the tempo,” she explained.
She also recalled Morocco’s comeback in the final against Tanzania last April. “Even though we were down two goals early, we didn’t give up hope or give up. We kept our focus, and we continued to give everything. It’s proof of our character. We believed in it until the end, and it smiled on us! It was great to give Moroccan fans a good reason to celebrate,” said the Casablanca player.
