Rabat – Abdelkoddous Hafsi, the communication officer for Akdital private hospital group, denied recent reports suggesting that the Akdital clinic in Agdal in Rabat had been closed by the Wilaya for operating without a compliance certificate.
Hafsi said the news reported today “contained factual errors,” stating that the clinic had halted activity of the clinic since June due to an urban planning issue, and not for the reasons implied in recent media coverage.
“The published report suggests that this decision was made today, but in fact, it was taken in June, the same month the clinic was inaugurated. The report also claims the clinic was closed for operating without a certificate of compliance, which is not true, as the clinic does possess this certificate,” Hafsi told Morocco World News (MWN).
Akdital’s personnel remarks came in stark contradiction to information obtained by Moroccan news outlet Assahifa “from official sources.”
The news outlet reported today that the Wilaya of the Rabat-Sale region ordered the closure of the clinic due to the group’s “failure to comply with legal procedures after the completion of construction and before obtaining the certificate of compliance.”
The sources added that the clinic started operating the clinic without obtaining the certificate, which “violates the law and poses risks to patients.”
“This led to a series of recurrent legal breaches, involving the Urban agency, the Wilaya, and local officials in the Agdal area who failed to report the observed violations,” the report said, noting that the situation was only reviewed when the group requested the certificate of compliance after the inauguration of the clinic.
This prompted Wali Mohamed El Yaacoubi to reprimand the local district officer and order the closure of the clinic until all conditions for obtaining the certificate were met, Assahifa reported.
The news report added that the opening of the clinic sparked concerns over accountability following alleged procedural lapses by the Rabat urban agency, suggesting that a senior official from the agency was also reportedly transferred to the nearby city of Sale before being “reinstated under unclear circumstances.”
Akdital opened 12 new healthcare facilities in Morocco last year. The number triples its total establishment across Morocco.
The group holds facilities in Khouribga, Marrakech, Essaouira, Tetouan, Errachidia, Taroudant, Dakhla, Kenitra, Benguerir and Meknes, boasting a workforce of over 3,500 doctors and 3,700 hospital beds.
By 2027, Akdital plans to add 62 establishments and over 6,000 hospital beds in 32 different cities across Morocco. In 2024, Akdital reported revenues of nearly MAD 3 billion ($295 million). ,
