Rabat– The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) honored the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) on Wednesday in Rome with its Technical Excellence Award. The award recognizes Morocco’s leadership in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for sustainable development.
The distinction asserts Morocco’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to foster international solidarity and promote shared expertise in the fields of sustainable agriculture and food security.
The award was presented during the World Food Forum (WFF), an event that brings together global stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions for the future of food systems. FAO acknowledged AMCI in the South-South and Triangular Cooperation category for its instrumental role in strengthening collaboration among developing nations and for its proactive efforts in sharing technical knowledge and innovative practices that address pressing development challenges.
Through close cooperation with both national and international partners, AMCI continues to advance Morocco’s strategic efforts to implement human-centered, sustainable development projects across key sectors.
The agency’s work not only strengthens regional partnerships but also promotes resilience and innovation in agricultural systems, positioning Morocco as a leader in global development cooperation.
As part of the same forum, Morocco also highlighted an innovative, youth-driven initiative on Tuesday. Students from the Lycée Mohammed VI d’Excellence (LM6E) in Benguerir presented the project “Global Youth Challenge,” which focuses on sustainable agriculture in semi-arid environments.
Led by the OCP Foundation in partnership with OCP North America, the Association for the Promotion of Excellence in Education (APEE), LM6E, and Canadian organizations, the program places youth at the forefront of global agricultural and food system transformations.
The initiative provides students with hands-on, practical, and scientific learning experiences, guided by LM6E teachers and experts from Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). It encourages innovation and equips the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to advance sustainable agricultural practices.
The award ceremony, marking the 80th anniversary of FAO, celebrated global excellence in knowledge exchange and technical expertise across six priority areas. These efforts align with this year’s World Food Day theme: “Water is Life, Water is Food — Leave No One Behind,” reflecting a shared commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive future for global food systems.
