Rabat – Tensions flared at Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday after Real Madrid’s 2–1 victory over Barcelona on Matchday 10 of La Liga. A heated exchange erupted between players from both sides, triggered by pre-match comments from Barça’s teenage star Lamine Yamal.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the fight began when Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal confronted Yamal after the final whistle, saying: “If you talk too much, today you’ll have to swallow your words.”
The remark referred to Yamal’s confident statements before the match, when he said: “Of course, yes… they steal, they complain.”
Yamal’s comments were made during a livestream appearance on Gerard Piqué’s Kings League broadcast, where he referred to Real Madrid as “moaners and robbers”.
The remarks quickly went viral and were seen by many Madrid players as disrespectful, especially ahead of such a high-stakes match as the Clásico.
Yamal responded post-match by shouting “Let’s go outside!” toward several Madrid players. Vinícius Jr. then passed by and gestured that Yamal talks too much, prompting the 18-year-old to challenge him to a fight in the locker room.
Vinícius accepted and began running toward Yamal, but was stopped by teammates after coach Xabi Alonso ordered Madrid players to return to midfield and celebrate.
The match itself was intense, with Real Madrid coming from behind to win 2–1. Fermín López opened the scoring for Barcelona, but goals from Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham sealed the comeback for Los Blancos. Pedri was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.
With this win, Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of the table to 27 points, five ahead of second-place Barcelona (22 points).
However, the post-match drama overshadowed the result, drawing attention to the growing rivalry between Yamal and Madrid’s players.
Yamal, hailed as one of Spain’s most promising talents, is known for his bold personality and controversial lifestyle.
But Sunday’s events showed that his words can carry consequences, especially in a fixture as big as El Clásico.
