Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, is set to face the press on Friday, November 7th, at 11 am at the Mohammed VI Football Complex near Salé, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has just confirmed on its website. That’s when he’ll reveal his squad for the friendlies against Mozambique on the 14th of November and Uganda on the 18th of November.
Both of those games will take place at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, starting at 8 pm.
A crucial step towards AFCON 2025
These two friendlies are a pretty big deal in the lead-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that Morocco will be hosting from December 21st 2025, to January 18, 2026.
With the Atlas Lions being drawn in Group A alongside Mali, Zambia, and Comoros, they have a real mixed bag of opponents to work through.
The November friendlies will give Regragui the chance to assess the form of his players, test different tactics and see how his team jells together before the main event.
The quality of the opposition makes these games interesting. Uganda is ranked 83rd in the FIFA standings, with a pretty decent AFCON track record and Mozambique is ranked 101st, but on an upward curve. On paper these teams are weaker than Morocco, but African football is harder than it seems. Both teams will give Morocco a glimpse of the challenges of playing African teams and help them work out how best to approach the tournament.
On Friday, Regragui will share some insight into his thought process behind the squad selection. Does he go with what he knows will work or try to bring in some fresh faces? He will also give an early taste of his tactical thinking and team balance heading into the tournament.
As the home tournament draws ever closer, Morocco’s focus is firmly on fine-tuning every last detail. The friendlies in Tangier offer a last chance for the players and coaching staff to get it all right before the big one.
