Rabat – The Moroccan national football team is set to play two friendly matches in November 2025—a couple of last tests before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) starts in Morocco this December.
The Atlas Lions will get things started on November 14 when they take on Mozambique. Four days later, on November 18th, it’s Uganda’s turn to face Morocco. Both matches will be played at the Grand Stade de Tangier, kicking off at 20h00 GMT+1, local time.
Having these games fall within the official FIFA international window is good for head coach Walid Regragui. It will give him a final opportunity to fine-tune his squad, try out new things and get a feel for his team before the big tournament.
Mozambique and Uganda, both of which made an appearance in recent AFCON editions, are going to be a stern test for the Atlas Lions.
These games are also going to be a chance for Regragui to shake things up, give some of the players a chance to shine, and work on building the kind of team chemistry that has already got the Atlas Lions the top African team.
They’ll be looking to sharpen up their attack, sort out their defense and keep the momentum going that has seen them rise to the top.
Friendlies inaugurating Ibn Batouta Tangier Stadium
The fixtures will take place at the brand new Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, which has undergone a total transformation just in time for AFCON 2025 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Work on the renovation was finished in late September 2025, costing around $360 million (3.6 billion MAD), turning the stadium into one of the most modern football arenas on the continent. The works included:
- Tearing out the athletics track so fans can get right up close to the action.
- A bigger capacity, around 75,000 seats.
- Some much-needed upgrades to the players, media, and VIP facilities.
- A new hybrid grass pitch that meets the standards set by both FIFA & CAF.
The Grand Stade de Tanger is set to be one of the main venues for the AFCON 2025 tournament and will play host to some major matches during that tournament. Come the 2030 World Cup — which Morocco will be co-hosting with Spain and Portugal—it will be one of Morocco’s key venues.
Tickets will be on sale through the FRMF’s website and at some of the official ticket outlets, whilst both games will be broadcast live on Arryadia TV and SNRT Sport.
With less than two months to go before AFCON 2025 kicks off, these two friendlies are the Atlas Lions’ last chances to get things right on their tactics. Before they take to the field in the hope of bringing home some much-needed glory on home soil.
