Princess Lalla Asmaa, President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon for a two-day working visit, at the invitation of Rachel Ruto, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya.
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, she was received by First Lady Rachel Ruto.
According to Morocco’s national news agency MAP, the visit is part of efforts that place human dignity and social inclusion at the center of development priorities.
Lalla Asmaa is accompanied on this working visit by a delegation that includes officials from the foundation and representatives of Moroccan public institutions.
According to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Lalla Asmaa toured Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to observe the progress of Kenya’s cochlear implant program. She also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation between Morocco and Kenya in hearing health.
According to KBC, the visit also included the signing of partnership agreements and meetings with Kenyan institutional representatives involved in inclusive health programs.
Lalla Asmaa donated cochlear implant devices valued at KSh 120 million ($830,000), intended to support Kenyan children with hearing impairments. The devices were handed over to the Kenyan Ministry of Health under the Voice of Children initiative, led by First Lady Rachel Ruto.
A specialized medical team at KNH, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Richard Lesiyampe, carried out the implant surgeries.
Later in the evening, First Lady Rachel Ruto hosted a dinner at State House, Nairobi, to mark the strengthening of cooperation between Kenya and Morocco in inclusive healthcare and child welfare.
The visit highlights the outreach of the inclusion model developed by the Lalla Asmaa Foundation. Through which, more than 850 deaf children have already received cochlear implants, along with comprehensive medical and educational support enabling them to hear, learn, and fully develop their abilities.
This model, presented as distinctive in its implementation, is now being shared with 21 countries across Africa, the MENA region, and Latin America, which regard the Moroccan experience as a reference for sustainable cooperation and knowledge exchange.
