Rabat – Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has called on supporters to continue backing the national team, stressing that fan support is a decisive factor in achieving success at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

Speaking after Morocco’s 1-0 win over Mozambique, Regragui reminded fans that the team needs their encouragement regardless of results.

“The Morocco team has always been expected to win the Africa Cup of Nations. This is not new. Since I was born, Moroccans have been waiting for this title,” Regragui said. “The trophy will come through determination, the way we play, and the support of the fans who stood behind us today.”

He admitted that Morocco often lacks the final clinical edge in front of goal, despite creating many chances. “Compared to the number of opportunities we create, we don’t score as many goals as we want. But that depends on the nature of the match. We have won games before with big scores like 7 or 4 goals. It’s not always possible to be 100% effective,” he explained.

Regragui stressed that solving problems and maintaining confidence are more important than chasing high scorelines. “We have talented players who score regularly for their clubs. I trust they will be ready when the tournament begins. What matters to me is winning and reaching the danger zone.”

The coach also pointed to Morocco’s U17 team as an example of how fan support can change outcomes.

“Today we saw the U17 team, and I want to say to them: ‘Well done.’ Fifteen days ago, the fans were not satisfied and said they would achieve nothing. Some were surprised when I asked the crowd to applaud them after losing by six goals. But when the fans gave them confidence, they won big and qualified. This is football, there is winning and losing.”

Regragui concluded with a message of unity: “The fans must always stay behind the team and show the players that we support them no matter the result. Just as we can score early, we can also score in the final minutes. No Moroccan does not wants to win the Africa Cup. God willing, with everyone united, we will achieve it. We started preparing for this goal a year ago.”
