Rabat– Morocco secured a 1-0 victory over Mozambique in front of a packed Tangier Grand Stadium, in one of two international friendlies scheduled for the international November window. The Atlas Lions controlled the game but lacked the efficiency to extend their lead.

For Morocco’s national teams, this is the second win of the night, after the U17 team’s 1-1 (4-3 on penalties) win over the USA in the Round of 32 at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

The hosts opened the scoring early, with Azzedine Ounahi’s brilliant shot in the 7th minute, setting the tone for a first half (and a match) dominated by Morocco. The team kept control throughout, registering 18 shots and playing vertical, precise football, but chances were not converted.

Mozambique struggled to respond, and Morocco had a chance to double the lead when El Kaabi missed a penalty in the second half. At the 63rd minute, coach Walid Regragui made a double substitution to bring on Igamane for Ezzalzouli and En-Nesyri for El Kaabi, and immediately inject energy into the attack. Igamane created a dangerous chance just a minute after entering the pitch that could’ve doubled the lead, but Morocco could not finish.

Notably, Morocco were without Achraf Hakimi and Nayef Aguerd, both sidelined due to injury. The good news is the depth of the squad since other players stepped up to win this match.

This friendly was as an important part of Morocco’s preparations for AFCON 2025 on home soil, and a second friendly is scheduled against Uganda on November 18. The team will have to improve efficiency in front of the goal.
