Horse ‘Agador’ won the 2025 Grand Prix of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Thoroughbreds on Saturday at the Casablanca-Anfa race track, the showpiece event of the Morocco International Meeting.
Ridden by French jockey Guillaume Guedj-Gay, Agador hung back a bit at first but then started to make his move as they hit the 2,400-meter mark on the sand, and kicked into overdrive at the very end to grab that all-important first-place finish. It was a strong performance from Agador in a major Moroccan horse race, one of the top-tier events in the country and a key part of the Défi du Galop international circuit.

Moroccan rider takes third place
Spanish jockey Alejandro Vel Gutiérrez steered Shelby into second place while Moroccan rider Khalid Jbilou got Marfisa across the line in third place. All three horses were running neck and neck right up to the very end, but Agador’s final surge made all the difference.
The race, which had a purse of around €135,000, attracted a cracking field of European and North African horses.
Held on November 22, the Grand Prix of His Majesty King Mohammed VI is the top Thoroughbred event of the Morocco International Meeting and it’s always the highlight of the card. This year it was also the ultimate test of stamina and endurance on Casablanca’s sandy track, but the Grand Prix proved once again to be the real challenge.
In a statement to MAP, Omar Skalli, General Manager of the SOREC, said that the two-day event shows just how much Morocco has grown in its ability to put on top-level international events and it also highlights SOREC’s commitment to developing the horse racing sector and building its international presence.
Agador’s win in Morocco is a pretty big deal: winning a top-level international event like the Grand Prix of His Majesty King Mohammed VI adds a huge amount of prestige.
The 11th edition of the Morocco International Meeting (MIM) runs on into Sunday with Arabian thoroughbred competitions including the Grand Prix of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Arabian thoroughbreds, the Grand Prix of His Royal Highness Heir Prince Moulay El Hassan and the Grand Prix of his Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid.
