Rabat – Moroccan football authorities stepped up coordination efforts in Mexico on Monday as the national team prepared for a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture against the Netherlands.
Fouzi Lekjaa, head of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), met Nuevo León Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda in Monterrey, the city set to host the Round of 32 encounter.
Morocco’s ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, joined the meeting, which took place just hours before kickoff.
The exchange reflected close cooperation between Moroccan representatives and local officials as Monterrey braces for a strong turnout of Moroccan supporters.
Governor García Sepúlveda said the city and the wider Nuevo León region take pride in hosting the Moroccan team and its fans. He noted that authorities put in place a range of measures to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for visitors.
A dedicated gathering area, known locally as the “water garden,” has been set up a short walk from the stadium. Moroccan supporters are expected to head there from late afternoon before moving together toward the venue.
Lebbar welcomed what he described as a generous reception from local authorities. He said Moroccan supporters have felt at ease in Monterrey, where preparations reflect careful attention to crowd movement and fan experience.
The match between Morocco and the Netherlands will kick off at 7 p.m. local time in Monterrey, which corresponds to 2 a.m. in Morocco. The fixture stands as a crucial moment in Morocco’s World Cup run, with a place in the next round at stake.
