Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s Director-General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, met on Tuesday in Marrakech with Faisal Shahkar, the United Nations Police Commissioner and UN Under-Secretary-General for Rule of Law.
The meeting took place at the Menara Gardens complex near Bab Jdid, which is hosting the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly through November 27. According to a statement from Morocco’s national police directorate, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the UN and Moroccan security institutions.
Shahkar conveyed the UN Secretary-General’s interest in deepening security partnership with Morocco, particularly in areas that would enhance the capacities of UN Police – both at its headquarters in New York and across peacekeeping missions deployed in conflict zones worldwide.
The UN official stressed the value of Moroccan police expertise, citing the force’s operational experience, advanced training, and linguistic abilities that enable deployment in diverse regions.
The meeting is part of Hammouchi’s series of bilateral consultations with heads of delegations from countries and international organizations attending the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech.
These talks aim to broaden security cooperation and build stronger partnerships to address transnational crime and emerging global security challenges.
