Rabat – Morocco and Ethiopia have reinforced their security collaboration with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, and the Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police, signed the agreement in Marrakech today.Â
The MoU focuses on operational, intelligence, and technical collaboration to fight violent crime and organized criminal networks threatening the two countries.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol, which kicked off today and is scheduled to run through November 27.
The MoU establishes a framework to guide cooperation between the two countries in the security sector, facilitating the exchange of expertise, experiences, and information, as well as technical assistance.Â
It seeks to enable a deeper understanding and more effective response to the various forms of organized crime that could threaten the security of both nations.
Under the agreement, Morocco’s security services will provide Ethiopia with support in training, technical and intelligence assistance, and human resource development to strengthen crime prevention and enforcement capacities.
The scope of cooperation includes combating human trafficking, illegal migration, organ trafficking, illicit drug and chemical trafficking, illegal arms and explosives trade, cybercrime, financial and economic crimes, and money laundering, alongside other areas of mutual interest.
The Moroccan and Ethiopian security chiefs held bilateral talks following the signing, reviewing the results of past collaboration and exploring ways to enhance their partnership.
Morocco is actively working to broaden its international partnerships as part of a strategic push to strengthen regional stability and security cooperation.Â
By cultivating ties with key countries, the North African country seeks to enhance collaborative mechanisms, share best practices, and position itself as a proactive player in addressing transnational challenges that affect both domestic and regional safety.
