Rabat – Videos shared widely on social media showed King Mohammed VI walking through a large shopping mall in Dubai. The King, who appeared in good health, was accompanied by his aides and members of his security team.
Many Emirati social media accounts reposted the video with warm messages and a popular Emirati song welcoming the Moroccan monarch.Â
The footage offered a rare glimpse of the King’s daily life away from formal ceremonies and the media spotlight. Although the visit has not been officially announced, the images suggest that he is currently in the UAE on a private trip.
Several media reports had suggested that the King would go on a private visit to the UAE in November.Â
This is not the first time King Mohammed VI makes a private or semi-private visit to the UAE. Over the past years, he has travelled to the country on several occasions that were not strictly official state visits.Â
For example, reports from 2015 confirmed that the King was in the UAE on a private visit, and after his official state visit in 2023 he was also said to have extended his stay in Abu Dhabi for personal time before returning to Morocco.Â
These repeated trips reflect a pattern of close, continuous contact between the Moroccan monarch and the Emirati leadership.
Relations between Morocco and the UAE are among the closest in the Arab world. The two countries have been connected by decades of political cooperation, economic partnership, and shared strategic interests.Â
In addition, the UAE has also been one of the firmest supporters of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara, openly backing the autonomy plan and further strengthening that support by opening a consulate in Laayoune in 2020.Â
The King’s current appearance in the UAE comes after his last major public activity in Morocco; the speech he delivered on October 31, immediately after the United Nations Security Council vote on Western Sahara. The King celebrated the significance of the UN decision and the continued diplomatic support Morocco receives from its partners.
