Rabat — Othmane Maamma marked an important milestone on Monday after scoring his first goal of the season in the English Championship. The 20-year-old midfielder/winger, who started his third match for Watford FC, found the net against Birmingham City — even though the Hornets eventually fell 2–1.
This was Maamma’s fifth appearance of the season and his third start, confirming his growing role in the squad. Despite the defeat, his goal stood out as the brightest moment of Watford’s evening and exemplified the technical quality that the young Moroccan brings to the team.
Maamma has been on a rapid rise since his breakout performance with Morocco’s U20 national team earlier this year. He was recently crowned African Young Player of the Year, a recognition that solidified his status as one of the continent’s most exciting prospects.

His performance on Monday sends a strong message: Maamma is ready to compete at a higher level and could soon become a key figure for both Watford and the Moroccan senior national team. With the Hornets currently sitting 15th in the Championship with 24 points, the club will be hoping his offensive contributions continue to grow in the second half of the season.
For Morocco, the emergence of a young talent succeeding in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues is a promising sign as the national team looks to build depth for future competitions.
